XBOX have reportedly secured the exclusive rights to steam GTA 6 from launch day. That’s according to The Verge.
This will be a big get for XBOX considering PlayStation has had the marketing deal so far. Plus, XBOX has some other significant plans for their streaming service which we’ll take a look at later in the article.
Earlier today, XBOX CEO Asha Sharma held a all-hands meeting with her employees. During the talk, Sharma is said to have revealed XBOX has managed to sign a deal for the exclusive game streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto VI. This is something she says “no other platform holder is doing”.
This agreement will mean you’ll be able to play GTA VI anywhere as long as the device uses XBOX Cloud Gaming; this includes mobile phones. XBOX Cloud Gaming will be the exclusive cloud partner. In terms of how long the contract will last remains to be seen. There was no length mentioned by the CEO. In the past, Rockstar and XBOX have worked together to stream GTA V and other titles via XBOX Cloud Gaming.
This might not seem like a big deal to many but to some it is. If you don’t own a current gen console e.g. you’re only a PC gamer, you will be able to play Grand Theft Auto VI through XBOX Cloud Gaming. It won’t be the most optimal way to play but it sure is better than nothing.
From November, Xbox Cloud Gaming will be changing a lot. For starters, access to it won’t be limited to XBOX Game Pass subscribers. You’ll be able to use a pay-as-you-go option which is a great way for those who don’t use an XBOX or even a PC. You can pay for a few hours and just have that.
Speaking of hours, XBOX will be reducing streaming hours across all of their current tiers. Ahead of GTA VI’s launch, players will have access to 15 hours on Game Pass Ultimate, 10 hours on Game Pass Premium and 5 hours on Game Pass Essential.
In other related news, XBOX revealed last month the game’s pre-orders are breaking a lot of records for the platform. Learn more here.
