If you're a big fan of racing games, you've probably already got yourself a wheel. But if you're still rocking an entry level gear- or belt-driven wheel because you've been held back by the steep cost of direct drive, then check out this new deal. Best Buy is currently offering the Moza Racing R5 Direct Drive Racing Wheel and Pedal Set for PC exclusively for $349.99 with free shipping after a $30 off instant discount. That might not seem like notable savings, but keep in mind that Moza wheels are already affordable to start with and rarely see discounts throughout the entire year.

The R5 is not Moza's least expensive direct drive wheel. That honor goes to the Moza R3, which retails for $279.99 and is not currently on sale. The primary difference between the two is maximum torque: the R5 offers 5.5Nm of force compared to 3.9Nm from the R3. Both are less expensive than other alternatives: Logitech's G RS50 is $600 (for the wheel only), Fanatec's CSL DD Ready2Race Bundle is $540, Simagic's Green Flag Bundle is $600, and Thrustmaster's T598 is $466. Some do offer advantages like a higher torque ceiling or console compatibility, but if value is king it's hard to beat Moza.
So what makes direct drive the gold standard for racing sims? Direct drive wheels connect directly to the motor, which translates to immediate force feedback with zero latency and no lost power delivery from gear or belt-drive resistance. The higher the torque rating, the wider range of sensitivity. The Moza R5 is a big step up in immersion compared to a gear or belt driven wheel, and 5Nm is considered the baseline for bringing out the best of what direct drive has to offer.
The Moza R5 bundle includes the wheel (and wheelbase) and pedals. The 11" wheel features an aluminum alloy rim, microfiber letaher grips, Moza's signature RGB sequential flow shift light indicator, and a total of 22 programmable buttons. The wheelbase features aviation-grade aluminum housing, intelligent temperature control, and a 15-bit ultra-high resolution encoder. The anti-slip pedals are constructed of high-strengh steel and use Hall Effect sensors.
The Moza R5 is exclusively for PC
The Moza R5 works for PCs only, which means console gamers will need to look elsewhere. This is an excellent wheel for more competitive racing sims like Assetto Corsa, Automobilista, and Le Mans Ultimate. It will also work well with Forza Horizon 6, although this game is more arcadey than the rest and was designed from the ground up to be controller-friendly. Assetto Corsa EVO, which is currently available as a Steam Early Access release with a final expected release in 2027, is one of the best use-case scenarios. Sadly but not surprisingly, neither Star Wars Galactic Racer nor Grand Theft Auto 6 are expected to release with wheel support (GTA itself won't see a PC port in quite a while).
