Disney hosted its 2026 D23 event over the weekend and all of the official merchandise shown off at the show is now available to buy online. Among the 84 new items added to the official Disney Store, one particular inclusion caught my eye: The Pixar Ball.
This isn't the first time Disney has sold an accurate reproduction of the Pixar Ball at its store, but it is quite a bit more substantial than previous models. The 4-inch version of the ball has been available for years now and the new 10-inch model practically dwarfs that one.
The Pixar Ball (aka Luxo Ball) was first introduced back in 1986 in Pixar's short called Luxo Jr. and has since become a company icon. The Pixar Ball has made appearances across dozens of movies, video games, and shorts over the years. You can even find it hidden in the background of this year's Toy Story 5. According to the product page on the Disney Store website, the new larger ball is being released in celebration of its official 40th Anniversary.
The official ball is made of Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU), which is the same material commonly used for the outer casing of soccer balls. It may look a bit like one of those cheap plastic balls you'd find at your local Target, but it's thankfully a higher quality than that. At 10-inches in diameter, it's a little bit larger than a common playground ball you might use for kickball.
At $19.99, this is an actual ball that is meant to be played with rather than confined to a shelf. You can certainly add it to a more static collection of Disney gifts you have on display, but if it gets kicked around a bit, it's not likely to explode immediately. Just don't jump on it like our little lamp friend Luxo Jr. keeps doing.
The LEGO Luxo Jr. Is Pretty Cool Too
Speaking of awesome Pixar merch, it's worth calling out that Luxo Jr. and this iconic ball were released as a LEGO set just last year. We had the chance to build this set ourselves and loved how it came together. If you're looking for something to buy that can show off your love of Pixar movies, we highly recommend picking up this set to build yourself. Amazon has had a discount on it pretty much all year.
