Rust's October Update

On the heels of Facepunch Studios adding necks to s&box it has now also added milk to Rust. *️⃣

October's Rust update is here and it's bringing livestock—cows and sheep—and their various secretions, offal, and dander for all your crafting needs. The new animals produce the following:

Animal stuff

  • Dung
  • Meat
  • Bones
  • Leather
  • Milk (cows only)
  • Wool (sheep only)
  • Companionship?

There's an economy built around these new herbivores, so in addition to murdering them for resources you can also take your animals to a new Stable vendor and haggle over the price of sale. The same vendor will also buy the wool you harvest from sheep.

New fencing has been added so you can build a pen for your pals. Here's a rundown of some of the other new livestock features:

Animal stuff, cont'd

  • Facepunch doesn't explain how to capture livestock, but says it "should all be pretty intuitive"
  • Like plants, you can breed animals in search of "a god clone"
  • If you anger the NPC vendor by haggling too much, you'll have to wait 15 minutes before selling them something else
  • You can drink milk
  • You can refrigerate milk for four hours, and then "skim" it
  • Skimming milk gives you skimmed milk
  • Skimming milk also gives you cream

• "Cream is a more powerful consumable."

  • Milk and cream can be added to tea to buff its effects
  • Raw and spoiled meat can be used in a biofuel generator
  • Squirrels, rabbits, frogs, turtles, and other critters have also been added

Good to finally have confirmation that cream is more powerful than milk. There's plenty of other stuff in Rust's October update but I think I covered the best of the stuff, plus it's a really long blog and I don't feel like reading the rest. Help yourself!

Footnotes

*️⃣"On the heels of Facepunch Studios adding necks to s&box it has now also added milk to Rust" is a really weird sentence. Is it the first time that sentence has ever been said?

Oddly enough, no!

After searching for a few hours through various newspaper archives, it seem the same sentence was spoken on July 12, 1967 by Idaho governor Don Samuelson while giving a speech at the dedication of Farragut State Park. He keeled over a moment later and would remain unconscious for three days, apparently the victim of an unexplained and, quite honestly, fairly useless transmission from the future.

As he lay there on the ground twitching and mumbling, the Idaho Falls Post-Register reported, he received some "light boos" from the crowd.
