Rockstar Games are extremely upset over the recent GTA 6 leak but will it change their approach as we close in on launch? At this moment, they are standing firm.
According to the ever reliable Jason Schreier on Bloomberg, Rockstar Games and Take-Two are yet to have found the identity of the leaker known as “cyberleek”. We previously reported on how Take-Two have subpoenaed Discord and Microsoft to provide them with information that would reveal the person or groups identity.
Not only do Rockstar not know who is behind the leaks but how it even happened. That’s according to one of Schreier’s sources close to the situation. This is a pretty bad moment for the entire company.
Rockstar Games leadership sent a company-wide email this week to address the leaks. It is said the executive told staff the leak would not diminish the “excellent work” already done on the project so far. Schreier is told the game is not quite finished but it is “getting close”.
There has been some speculation among fans that Rockstar might bring next week’s extended look forward. This would be damage limitation as more gameplay leaks are expected. However, Schreier is told Rockstar do not plan on changing course. The extended look will go live on August 27th as scheduled. Additionally no changes are being made to the marketing campaign. It is full steam ahead.
GTA fans have been quite empathic to what Rockstar staffers are feeling this week. So much excitement and anticipation has been stolen from them once again. According to sources within Rockstar, both developers and leadership are “angry”, “frustrated” and “exhausted” following another substantial leak which comes after tightened security measures.
As we’ve said before, this story is far from over and we expect more leaks and updates to come so stay tuned.
