Curry Barker, famous for his hit horror movie Obsession, is keen on bringing his terrifying tastes to the world of Indiana Jones if the opportunity ever arises.

Barker shared his vision for an especially grisly take on Indy’s adventures during a conversation with Gold Derby after the outlet brought up similar remarks made by Cooper Tomlinson, Barker’s longtime collaborator who co-wrote, produced, and starred in Obsession as Ian, Bear’s best friend.

"I would want to do a really f**ked up, rated-R version of [Indiana Jones],” Barker said. “I want to do a crazy adventure movie. That's something that Cooper and I have talked about, because we feel like we've never seen something like that; we've only ever seen the family-friendly version.

“But what happens if two regular guys, or one regular guy, goes on a journey that turns crazy? Literally pushing the boundaries of that genre would be fun for me."

As previously mentioned, Tomlinson feels a similar way, hoping to bring back the action-adventure films that defined cinema through the '80s and '90s.

"I'd love to bring back the adventure epic like Raiders of the Lost Ark," he told the outlet. "What really worked with Obsession was making something that was honest and grounded in reality; obviously we can all suspend disbelief and enjoy all the crazy action stuff that isn't real. But when it comes to the characters and story, it should be more grounded and honest. That's how we're going to get those kinds of action classics back."

Speaking of action-adventure movies that defined the '90s, Michael Johnston (who played Bear in Obsession) has been cast in the next Mummy movie, which will also feature the return of Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. Also speaking with Golden Derby, he described the contrast between filming a small-budget indie horror movie like Obsession and a grand, big-budget picture like The Mummy: Book of the Dead as “really different.”

"These productions are like a well-oiled machine; we do a scene many, many times from many, many different angles, which is nice because it gives us the opportunity to work things out. That takes the pressure off in a way," he said.

"But there's also a lot more waiting around on those sets than on indie films. With something like Obsession, you only have a couple chances to get something done, and you're also helping everyone else out behind the scenes. I'm not doing that on The Mummy; I'm sitting back in my chair and enjoying the catering. But getting to work with Brendan and Rachel is great, and [directors] Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are the most lovely guys."

The Mummy: Book of the Dead is scheduled to release on October 15, 2027. Barker’s next movie, a horror-comedy called Anything But Ghosts, is also releasing next year in May.
