More details on GTA 6 previews have begun to leak. This time we have a better idea of what the preview event entailed and when impressions will be potentially published.

Yesterday we covered a story regarding how previews for the game have previously taken place. This information came from reputable sources and began to trickle out following the recent gameplay leaks. The recently released videos are not from any preview event.

According to a new report from Mp1st, a GTA 6 preview event was held recently. No specific date was given other than just July. This means at the very latest this event took place 3 weeks ago. Mp1st are an extremely credible source of information with a great track record.

Media were invited to see the game for themselves. The outlet states that this was a strictly hands-off event. No YouTuber or journalist was able to actually play the game. Impressions from those that attended are expected to be published at the same time as the extended look premieres on Netflix next week. For transparency, RockstarINTEL was not invited to any preview event.

It sounds like someone who actually attended said preview event shared this information with the publication. What was shown was not told to Mp1st. Giving away too much about that event would potentially expose them to being caught out by Rockstar.

Different Plans

This preview event is quite a bit different to what you traditionally see from video games these days. Grand Theft Auto 6 is just not any standard video game though. Normally press and content creators will visit either the game developer’s studio or an event space to get hands-on with the game for a few hours. Rockstar previously flew out community members and press to their HQ in New York City to play previous games and other locations nearby.

During their time playing the game those in attendance of preview events typically are able to record footage and use it to supplement their impressions. That’s not always guaranteed. It just depends on how far out the game is, the various marketing beats plan and more.

In the post covid world, preview events from home have become far more common with reviewers able to get access to the game on their own systems. Of course this does open the door to more leaks.

Rockstar will have made sure their preview event is extremely locked down. The downside of this though is the lack of actual personal opinions from going hands-on. Anyone can watch a video and make a judgement but none of us will be watching GTA 6 in November, we’ll be playing it with our own hands. It’s all about feel. That’s something that will be lacking from any upcoming previews.

In other related news, people have been pushing back against the new GTA leaker over his motives. You can learn more about the situation here.
