HBO and Warner Bros. Television announced Monday that It: Welcome to Derry has been renewed for a second season. Brad Caleb Kane, who served as co-showrunner on Season 1 with Jason Fuchs, will serve as showrunner for Season 2.
While It: Welcome to Derry Season 1 was set during the Cold War, Season 2 is set almost 30 years earlier.
According to the official logline, Season 2 “takes place in 1935 during the Great Depression and centers on the bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang, a group of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammo and end up facing unimaginable horror.”
In Stephen King’s novel It, the Bradley Gang were Midwestern outlaws in the vein of John Dillinger and Bonnie & Clyde. The gang’s eight members included leaders Al Bradley and George Bradley, George’s wife Kitty Donahue, Joe and Cal Conklin, Arthur Malloy, Patrick Caudy and his wife Marie Hauser.

The Bradley Gang were mentioned in It: Welcome to Derry Season 1. In the second episode, the US Air Force exhumes the gang’s car – with some of the gang’s corpses still inside – during Operation Precept. The Bradley Gang shootout on the streets of Derry is also depicted in the series’ animated opening credits sequence. The gang are also depicted in a wall mural in the 2017 film, It.
Executive producers Andy and Barbara Muschietti said in a statement: “Continuing to explore and expand on the amazing world Stephen King created is an absolute privilege. The support of our partners at HBO and Warner Bros. Television is priceless. Boy do we love our jobs!”
In addition to the Muschiettis, executive producers on Season 2 include Brad Caleb Kane, Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jamie Travis, and Dhana Gilbert.
Sarah Aubrey, Head of HBO Max Original Programming, said: “We are excited to return to the chilling world of Derry and to further expand on Andy and Barbara Muschietti's horrifically iconic adaptation. Together with Brad Caleb Kane, they will break new ground in season two, deepening the terror, the mystery, and the unforgettable Pennywise lore that fans love to devour.”
