GTA 6 is probably not going to be able to win the prestigious Game of the Year award at the end of this year. That’s according to one of the members of The Game Awards jury.
Many Rockstar Games fans have been talking about how the game should absolutely win Game of the Year even though it’s not even in an hour hands yet. There is a high expectation from people online that the game would probably walk away with many wins at the event that takes place in December. However, there’s a fair chance the game can’t even be nominated. The logic is sound and should be taken into consideration.
Video game writer and streamer Alanah Pearce has revealed the nomination process for the event. During one of her live streams, the creative responded to her chat saying the game will win Game of the Year. This year’s Game Awards takes place on December 10th (for context it took place on the 11th last year).
Pearce said “How could anyone finish the game in time? The game comes out on the 19th (November). There is no way that the jury is only voting on the 26th (November) and then the awards is 2 weeks later. It’s usually like over a month in advance that people start voting.” Additionally, Alanah shared dates for last year’s nomination process which could rule GTA VI out of contention:
So Grand Theft Auto VI will likely come out after the first round of nominations. It could enter at a later date, rules could be bended. Whilst the game might be eligible for TGA eventually, many of the voting jury won’t be able to form a full opinion on it. You can’t just give an award to a game you have only played parts of.
Stream chatters told Pearce that “they will change the rules for this game” do which she responded with “they didn’t for Cyberpunk” and “no way. They can’t change it. It’s too close. They can’t push the date from the 19th for it would be too hard on production.”
Another fun tidbit from Pearce’s stream is that she revealed declining working for Rockstar. After a couple of successful interviews for a position writing open world dialogue, she ultimately turned Rockstar down after it becoming an “
