GTA 6 Developers Announce Historic Vote For Unionisation On Release Day

GTA 6 developers will finally get to vote on their future at Rockstar Games next month.

According to the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain, all Rockstar staff in the UK will be able to vote for official recognition of the Rockstar Game Workers Union. The vote will take place on November 12th and run through the 26th. That is during GTA VI’s launch.

Staff will be voting on a deal complete with power to discuss things such as issues with pay and bonuses, overtime, redundancies, flexible working arrangements, and generative Al policies. If the employees vote in favour of recognition, they will have the biggest recognised union in the UK games sector.

“This November, we have the chance to make gaming history not once but twice. As all our hard work, skill and creativity are experienced by GTA VI players for the first time, our voices as workers will now be heard for the first time too.

For me, this vote comes down to ensuring employees at Rockstar get honesty and openness surrounding the decisions that affect them. When management choices are kept hidden, we can’t properly address issues like the gender pay gap, the uneven policies on overtime pay, or the concerns many co-workers hold around job security post-release.

This is our moment to secure a window onto the decisions that shape our lives, and a seat at the table to improve them. I’m immensely proud of the games Rockstar gives its fans. I want to be equally proud of the voice Rockstar gives its staff.”

The vote not only ties into GTA VI’s release but also the union busting tribunal. Closing arguments will be heard in Glasgow on November 17th and 18th. It’s going to be a busy few days.

This comes after Rockstar’s Head of Publishing Jennifer Kolbe told Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier earlier this month that the company had positive talks with the union and that it would be allowed; if staff vote on it. In other GTA VI news, the game’s download size has been revealed.
