Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is still a few months away, but it seems like it's at least going to be easier to get the Platinum trophy than it was in Rebirth.
Speaking to Anime News Network, Game Director Naoki Hamaguchi was asked why only 2.6% of PS5 players had the Platinum trophy for Rebirth, specifically citing the post-game VR boss gauntlets and the perfect play they required. And while Hamaguchi stands by the design decisions, he does explain why the trophy was so out of reach.
"For Rebirth's platinum trophy—well, for Rebirth in general—there's so much to do. There's so much content. We wanted to make people go through all this content and perfect it. It's kind of by design that that would make it difficult." But despite that difficulty, Hamaguchi doesn't regret making it that way, saying, "So, I don't want to call it a mistake in judgment or anything, but we also didn't expect so many people to want the platinum trophy. I think that was what we underestimated here. Battle director Teruki Endo also saw [the fan reaction] and was like, 'Oh, no! I feel bad—I have regrets.'"
But while the Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Platinum trophy will probably still be huge in scope, it should at least be a little bit easier to get, especially where the superbosses are concerned. Hamaguchi says, "In comparison, for Revelation, the platinum trophy will be easier to get. In terms of how difficult it will be, we're expecting twenty percent of players or maybe even more than that to be able to obtain it." Specifically, he mentioned that "It's not just about the amount of battles that there are, but the battles themselves that are going to be enjoyable. I think that's one thing that we've learned from Rebirth: to make the battles themselves enjoyable rather than just challenging."
So, it sounds like the optional bosses aren't going to be quite as much of a grind as they were in Rebirth, though hopefully there is still some challenge there.
We won't have to wait too much longer to see how these post-game battles play out, though. Final Fantasy Revelation comes out on February 8, 2027 for Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. And while you will need to download it to play, even if you buy it on a disc, you can at least expect the game to last for more than 100 hours.
