Downtown Miami might get plastered with large GTA 6 billboards as soon as next month. In a report by The Miamian, the city wants to give Rockstar Games signage waivers in various parts of the city. These are typically reserved for major sporting events such as the World Cup which took place this summer.
Miami District 2 Commissioner Damian Pardo who leads the city is reportedly sponsoring an ordinance on the September 10th for the city commission agenda that would “authorize the placement of temporary banners, building wraps and promotional displays advertising Grand Theft Auto VI, which transports gamers to Vice City, a fictional locale based on Miami.”
Pardo follows in the footsteps of fellow Democrat Mayor Levine Cava who wants a city-wide takeover promoting the game and local tourism. In comparison, the Republican Commissioner and Sheriff don’t want a “fictional version” of Miami to be promoted as GTA shows crime.
According to a spokesperson for Pardo, a maximum of 6 banners would be allowed in downtown Miami for a total of 56 days. This will go ahead if the downtown Miami homeowner associations agree to the deal. A draft of the legislation states all of the signage would be on display between October 15th through December 31st.
Take-Two Interactive would have to approve all parts of the marketing. Rockstar Games would also pay $202,000 per banner. The money would be used by the city for the development of the Upperdeck Edward T. Graham Heritage Trail.
We’ll have to wait and see if any in-person marketing takes place in Miami this year.

“The release of GTA VI is anticipated to generate substantial national and international media, consumer, entertainment, and cultural attention and presents an opportunity to further highlight Miami as an international center for entertainment, technology, media, tourism, and creative industries. Due to the unique international significance of the GTA VI release and its cultural association with Miami, the City Commission desires to provide a limited, temporary, geographically defined authorization for promotional displays associated exclusively with GTA VI release.”
