24 Jump Street, the long-awaited next installment in the Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum buddy cop franchise, finally has a release date.
Sony has confirmed that 24 Jump Street will release on December 10, 2027, with Tatum, Hill, and Ice Cube all returning. The film was officially announced earlier this year after years of hopes from fans. Despite its title, it is actually the third film; there was supposed to be a third film in the 2010s which would've linked the Jump Street crew with the Men in Black, but plans for the project fell apart.
Given the extended gap between films, some thought the franchise fizzled out. However, Jonah Hill and Meghan Malloy penned a script for a new movie, which will be helmed by Rodney Rothman (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse). It's unclear who else will star in the project or what it will be about, but given the major gap between these movies, it seems likely that the duo won't be able to integrate back into a high school or college. The first two films already made self-aware jokes about the two looking much older than the people they were supposed to be portraying undercover, so it's possible they could just continue to lean into that.
With a release next holiday season, it seems likely that shooting will begin imminently in order to hit its launch date. As a result, we may be able to expect some additional casting news any day. It's another win for those who are seeking raunchy R-rated comedies on the big screen, and hopefully, the film succeeds and can send a message to other studios that there's an appetite for other projects like it. Currently, it'll open around the same time as Avengers: Secret Wars, so it may have steep competition unless Marvel pushes that film back.
